About Us
On December 13, 1984, a group of Christians, full of faith that Jesus is the Christ, assembled. Together it was decided to establish a congregation of believers dedicated to the purpose of spreading the message that Jesus Christ is both savior and Lord with the Bible as our only source of God's will.
After two short periods of meeting in temporary locations, our present property of 85 acres was obtained. Located on the property at that time were four buildings; one formerly used as a restaurant, a motel consisting of 11 rooms, a remodeled log cabin and a barn. From these with the Lord's blessing and much work, our present facilities have developed.
On August 4, 1985, brother Don Neumeister, our minister, preached the first gospel message in the former restaurant that had been renovated to serve as our worship center. A new endeavor for Jesus Christ was established, taking the name, "THE PINES CHRISTIAN CHURCH".
Following the retirement of brother Don and his wife, Norma in 1992, we called brother Neil Gilliland and his wife, Lorene, to continue the strong preaching of God's Word, with each of us to "serve the Lord With Gladness" in this community. Our present minister is Dr. Jeff Collins. Jeff and his wife Rose came to the Pines in April 2016.

History
The Pines Restaurant and Motel sign, which for many years beckoned weary travelers to a fine meal and overnight lodging, now reads, The Pines Christian Church. It also beacons weary travelers on the journey of life to find rest and comfort and to partake of the bread of life, the Word of God.
After a group of people left a Christian church in Mt Gilead late in 1984, they began looking for an ideal location for a new church, first holding Sunday services in an office building/warehouse. "We knew from the start that the office building wouldn't suit us said Don Neumeister who served as the minister for the group. Neumeister learned that the Pines Restaurant and Motel, owned by comedian Bob Hope, had been vacant for about 20 years.
After contacting Hope's Cleveland lawyer, Mike Gavin, Neumeister learned that 80 acres behind the motel was owned by Hope's brother, Fred, and was also going unused. Bob and Fred built this (cluster of buildings) for their brother, who was in ill health, hoping he could run the restaurant and motel, but he died before it was complete. Gavin and Neumeister engaged in a series of offers and counter-offers on the 4 1//2 acres that included the motel and restaurant and on Fred Hope's 80 acres. Then Fred passed away and Neumeister wrote Bob a note of sympathy. In the note he stated that we weren't asking for a gift but wanted him to consider our offer. Then, by what he saw as a gift from God, Neumeister's persistence paid off and Bob Hope decided to give the property to the congregation, rather than sell it. Then the church bought the 80 acres owned by Fred Hope.
The adjacent property that Fred Hope owned included a log cabin, barn and a lake ideal for spring and summer service. Congregation members began in May of 1985 to make the stop for travelers into a place of worship.
We found that everything the Hopes left was good. Dressers and bedside tables left in the motel rooms were refinished and chairs reupholstered. Tables were removed from the restaurant, carpeting installed and curtains made. All the work was done by the congregation. Resident carpenters and electricians furnished their services for the church. Members also began scouring school and church sales for additions to the worship center.
The first service in the redesigned worship center was held August 4, 1985. Once a suitable worship center was complete and a sign had been placed out front to signal worshipers, each Sunday school teacher was charged with designing a motel room for the class's needs. The log cabin, which had been built for the Hopes, was redecorated. The living room became the church office and the bedroom the minister's study. A lounge with a fireplace was used for a young adult class.
The church designated a "Bring a Board" Sunday, when each member brought a piece of wood to be used to build picnic tables. There was enough wood to make 10 tables. The congregation of 108 worked together to create a place of worship out of an unused cluster of buildings. Neumeister said "I always say the Pines was conceived of adversity and born of Love".

Missions
Then Jesus came near and said to them, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age". Matthew 28:18-20
